Membership Guidelines

The objective of this Corporation shall be to foster and promote the involvement of its members in civic and charitable endeavors through mutual cooperation, joint planning and organized execution; and to provide charitable service to the various communities of its membership so as to foster and promote the advancement of each such community.

Regular Membership – Any man twenty-five (25) years of age or older, of good character, and achievement dedicated to the purposes of this Corporation and permanently residing full-time in the State of South Carolina shall be eligible for regular membership upon acceptance of his application by the Board of Directors and payment of initiation fees, dues and assessments as may, from time to time, be fixed by the Board of Directors. Each regular membership is encouraged to attend all and expected to attend at least seventy-five percent (75%) of the regular meetings of the membership.

Election to Regular Membership – Each man being proposed for regular membership shall submit his application to the Chairman of the Membership Committee. Within 60 days of such submission, the Membership Committee shall submit its recommendation for approval or disapproval to the Board of Directors for its recommendation to the general membership. Within 30 days of such submission, the Board of Directors shall determine and make its recommendation for approval or disapproval to the general membership for final determination. The general membership shall elect new regular members only at specified meetings.

Fees, Dues, and Assessments – Each regular member in good standing must pay, within the time and on the conditions set by the Board of Directors, the initiation fee, annual dues, and assessments in amounts to be fixed from time to time by the Board of Directors for said members’ class of membership. The dues, fees, and assessments at the time of determination shall be equal for all members within each respective class of membership.

Community Service – Each regular member is expected to volunteer their time to support events sponsored by the Corporation, and must serve on two committees established by the Corporation. All members are expected to serve on the Mentoring Committee.

Termination of Membership
(a) Causes for Mandatory Termination:

(i) The resignation of the member;
(ii) Such member fails to pay dues in a timely manner as determined by the Board of Directors, unless there is an excusable non-payment approved by the Chairman of the Membership Committee;

(iii) The occurrence of any event which renders such member ineligible for membership, provided that termination for such cause shall take effect only upon expiration of the period (not to exceed one (1) year for which such member’s current membership runs);

(iv) The determination by the Board of Directors or a committee designated to make such determination that the member has failed in a material and serious degree to observe the rules of conduct described in the Bylaws or otherwise applicable to members of the Corporation, had engaged in conduct materially and seriously prejudicial to the interest of the Corporation, or has been convicted of a felony. Such determination must be based upon written recommendation of at least three (3) regular members in good standing; or

(v) Failure of a member to financially participate in the major fund-raising event for the Corporation as determined by the Board.

Causes for Permissive Termination – The membership of any regular member may be terminated upon the failure of such member to attend fifty percent (50%) of the regular membership meetings during any calendar year unless there is an excusable absence determined by the Membership Committee.

Conflicts of Interest – No member shall knowingly engage, directly or indirectly, in any activity injurious or prejudicial to the interests of the Corporation. Each member shall immediately disclose to the Board of the Corporation, in writing, all details of any transaction involving the Corporation in which he has a pecuniary interest or in which his interest conflicts with the interests of the Corporation.

Procedures for membership consideration:

1. A Potential New Member Referral Form is submitted to a member of the Membership Committee, or to Cynthia Tucker at the office of the 100.

2. Cynthia sends by mail the New Member Kit, which includes a letter from the Chairman of the Membership Committee, the application, National Brochure, and a recap of the History of the local chapter.

3. Cynthia sends a copy of the letter to the Chairman of the Membership Committee.

4. The Chairman of the Membership Committee assigns the candidate to a member of the committee for setting up a lunch meeting to learn more about the candidates interest in joining the Corporation, and covers the Membership Guidelines.

5. The committee member invites the candidate to the next monthly meeting and introduces the candidate to the membership at the beginning of the meeting.

6. The consideration process begins with the submission of the membership application and appropriate fees.
